We booked the Sagrada Familia tickets for the whole family, and our visit was spectacular. The entrance was smooth and fast. We decided to come later in the afternoon and saw beautiful light coming from the colorful glass windows. It was so beautiful. I didn't know that you could also visit Gaudi's school as well with this ticket, so interesting! Definitely worth a visit!

DESCRIPTION

Sagrada Familia Tickets

Step into the world of genius architect Antoni Gaudi with a Sagrada Familia ticket. Skip the line and enter a dreamlike space filled with stunning colors and forms. This masterpiece, still under construction, is a must-see when in Barcelona!

CONSTRUCTION OF SAGRADA FAMILIA

The Sagrada Familia is a large unfinished Roman Catholic basilica in Barcelona, Spain, and one of the most famous works of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi. Officially titled the 'Basílica de la Sagrada Familia,' its construction began in 1882. It was designed by Francisco de Paula del Villar, who resigned from the project in 1883. After his resignation, Gaudi took over and completely transformed the previous design with his unique style and vision.

TOWER SYMBOLISM

The towers of the Sagrada Familia carry deep religious symbolism, integral to Gaudi's vision of the basilica as a "Bible in stone." Central Tower is dedicated to Jesus Christ and will be the tallest of all, reaching 172 meters, only a few meters shorter than the Montjuic Hill. Surrounding the main tower are four smaller towers dedicated to the Gospel authors - Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The Tower of the Apse is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, while the other twelve towers are dedicated to the Apostles, the original followers of Christ.

SPANISH CIVIL WAR

Did you know that the church of Sagrada Familia was damaged during the Spanish Civil War? Young anarchists busted into Gaudí's workrooms, destroyed his models, and set his design plans on fire. With an audio guide, uncover so much more about its blend of art, spirituality, and resilience. Just don’t forget to bring headphones and a charged smartphone!

Interesting Facts

PRIVATE FUNDING

Did you know that Sagrada Familia has been privately funded since its beginnings? The construction relies only on donations and ticket sales. Even Antoni Gaudí himself was involved in fundraising efforts. He often looked for help from Barcelona's Catholic community and other supporters across Catalonia and Spain.

SCHOOL ON THE CONSTRUCTION SITE

Gaudi built a school on the Sagrada Familia site for the children of the construction workers. Originally, it was built to provide basic education for children, and later, it was used by the local community. He designed the school, once again using simple materials and techniques but practically and artistically.

144 YEARS TO FINISH

The target is to complete all construction on the Sagrada Familia by the end of 2026. This deadline is particularly meaningful as it coincides with the 100th anniversary of Antoni Gaudi's death.
